About Us

What is Compass?

Compass is a website of practical buying guides. We write about everyday products with one aim: helping you work out which one suits you before you pay for it. Alongside the guides, we publish product listings that gather the options in one place.

Everything on the site is published by the Compass Editorial Team. It is a team effort, so you won’t find individual author profiles or credentials here.

Who are the guides for?

They are for people who are about to buy something and would like a clear head start. Maybe you have three tabs open and can’t tell the products apart, or you don’t know which specifications matter. Our guides try to answer those questions in plain language, without assuming you are an expert.

Why was Compass started?

The site has been publishing since 2020. The idea was simple: shopping research takes too long. Facts sit on manufacturer pages, opinions sit in reviews, and the useful comparison is rarely in either. We set out to put the relevant facts side by side and explain them in a sensible order.

How are topics chosen and guides written?

We choose topics by asking what readers would find useful and what they are searching for. A popular question that nobody has answered clearly is a good candidate.

Our research comes from manufacturer specifications, public product information and aggregated buyer feedback. We should be clear about what that means: we don’t test products ourselves, and we don’t claim lab results or hands-on experience. A guide tells you what the published information and owners say.

First drafts are produced with the help of AI writing tools. The Compass Editorial Team reviews every draft before it is published. Details of each step are in the Editorial Policy.

How does Compass pay for itself?

Compass doesn’t sell products and has no paid memberships, accounts or newsletter. Income comes from affiliate commissions: when you click a link to Amazon and make a qualifying purchase, we may earn a small commission, and your price stays the same.

That arrangement does not shape our recommendations. For the full explanation, read How We Make Money and the Affiliate Disclosure.

What should I do if I find a mistake or have a question?

Write to editorial@compass-om.com. Mention the page you were reading and what you think is wrong, or just ask your question. Prices and product details change, so reports like yours help keep the guides honest.

If your question is about an order, you will need to contact the store directly, because Compass doesn’t handle sales. The FAQ answers other common questions about the site.

What won’t you find here?

You won’t find medals, lab ratings or claims about how many people read the site. We don’t have a team of testers, and we would rather leave out a number than invent one. You also won’t find a store: Compass doesn’t take orders, so we have no way to ship a product or process a return.

What you will find are comparisons built from published information, explained in everyday words, with the sources of that information being the manufacturers and the people who bought the products. If a guide leaves a question open because the available information is thin, we try to say so.
